Do You Remember Ex-Fleischer Studios Actress Margie Hines?[1]

Marjorie Mercer seems to have gone into reverse on that because, for a long time she was heard by millions but seen by very few. The reason? Marjorie was the one-time "voice" of filmland's Betty Boop, Olive Oyl and Swee'Pea.

Today she is an employee of the Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation at Bethpage, Long Island, an organization which has set records for the unexcelled quality of its fighter planes for efficiency of production.

Head of the outfit is aviation genius, Roy Grumman, who was catapulted into world fame when his Avenger and Wildcat planes eased Hitler's U-Boat menace, and his Hellcats struck terror into the Japs in the Pacific.

A busy man is Roy Grumman, but like all truly busy men he's always able to find time to do something else worth while. And so it is not at all surprising that he will be special guest speaker on Eddie Dowling's Wide Horizons, next Sunday, March 12, at 4:00 p.m. EWT, over the Mutual Network, which Eddie is dedicating to the plant.

As a feature of the salute Eddie has selected Marjorie Mercer to appear on the broadcast with her husband, Corporal Jack Mercer, now stationed at Camp Edwards will also be a guest. In civillian life Corporal Mercer is the voice of Popeye the Sailor Man.

Star of the show, Eddie Dowling will be heard in a brief dramatic sketch; Casey Jones, aviation commentator will be highlighted in one of his stories of flying history and David and Mendoz and his orchestra will supply the musical part of the program.

Margie Hines retired from show business and voice-acting in 1944 to work for Leroy Randle "Roy" Grumman.
