PBS Says Sorry to the Fleischer Studios[1] |
---|

According to information as of September 2021, PBS known as PBS: Public Broadcasting Service gave out an apology for spreading misleading information after six years regarding Baby Esther Jones. In which they had used a photograph of Esther Bigeou stating that it was Betty Boop. A photo that originated from a website called Betty Boop Checks in the early 2000s, which most people originally assumed was Esther Lee Jones for many years.

According to one of the well known cartoon websites out there, that specializes in cartoon research, the "Betty Boop Wikia Fandom" a fan website run by Betty Boop fan(s), and many other sources helped to try and put out the real story because false information only causes confusion. The cartoon website warned people of the "fake history" that is still confusing people to this day.
According to information Taraji P. Henson's speech on BET is what "punctured" mainstream. So Max Fleischer's grandson Mark Fleischer wrote a letter to PBS. According to historian Raymond "Ray" Pointer, Mark was going to sue PBS, likely urged by Pointer. The historian warned people not to use social media as a source, but only some sources may be inaccurate and could lead to confusion and misinformation.
That doesn't mean that the Internet is a bad thing to use for research, it all depends on the sources. As of this generation, hardly anyone buys books anymore. On the 10th of September of this year, PBS re-wrote their article and apologized to the Fleischer Studios. Mark had told PBS that he was aware of some "inaccurate theories" but he wasn't quite sure of the source which he wrote in June.
Though he was sure that a photograph of a woman (Esther Bigeou) with a story about "Betty Boop's Origins" written by PBS had been confirmed as the true origin. The Fleischers, Pointer and others have tried to hide the origin of Bigeou's photograph as they do not want her associated with the Betty Boop story.
PBS stated they were not aware and had initially treated the item as a promotional copy, not journalism. Which is in fact true, as the original source was Betty Boop Checks.[2] A website that confused people since 2003. PBS since then has corrected the story in a new article called Betty Oops.
Mark Fleischer went on to say that Esther Jones was a very talented performer, but to single her out as the source of Betty Boop is an untrue narrative. However Esther Jones according to people worldwide is going to always be linked to the Betty Boop story merely because of the $250,000 Infringement Lawsuit.
