Jasmine Amy Rogers (March 9, 2000) is an actress from Richmond, Texas. She was featured in the Broadway musical Becoming Nancy in 2019 and The Wanderer in 2022. She also portrayed Gretchen Wieners in the national tour of the Mean Girls musical in 2022.
On tour, she was considered for the role of Regina George, but she eventually earned the role of Wieners. In 2023, she won the role of Betty Boop in Boop! the Betty Boop Musical at Chicago's CIBC Theatre.
Originally Rogers portrayed Trisha at the Boop! workshop sessions. Rogers had auditioned for the role of Betty Boop, but she did not get it. Jerry Mitchell who Rogers previously worked with on the Broadway show Becoming Nancy, said that Rogers proved to him that the role was hers. Kim Exum originally auditioned for the leading role, and appeared as Betty at the session Boop! Betty's Day Off, however lost the role to Rogers.
Rogers auditioned for the lead role seven or eight times.
After winning the role of Betty Boop, she was humbled, and did a publicity photo dressed up in Betty Boop attire. She appeared in articles such as CBS News, AP News, Deadline, Broadway World, Playbill, Theatrely, Just Jared, and The Chicago Sun-Times.
Rogers announced on her official social media page that she was the "new" Betty Boop. She used Helen Kane's classic hit songs "Ain'tcha" and "I Wanna Be Loved By You" as background music for her announcements. She wrote, "Ain'tcha kinda glad? So over the moon to finally announce that I'll be playing the iconic Betty Boop in Boop! the Musical."
She has done extensive training with Rachelle Rak for the role, Rak responded by saying that Rogers was a gift to work with.
On the 30th of September she appeared at the Meet & Greet event, there they showed the stage concept, the costume ideas, and the brand new updated poster. On the 19th of October, she was shown to be rehearsing for the debut.
Rogers discussed her favorite "Betty Boop" episode during an interview on October 27.
On November 8, Rogers did an interview about the CIBC Theatre debut by the Chicago news. Rogers stated that she knew Betty since she was a little girl, and said that both her grandmother was, and her mother is a fan of Betty Boop. When asked about vaudeville star "Baby Esther" by a Chicagoan news reporter, Rogers said that the African-American community has to bring her forward.
Rogers did an imitation of her Betty Boop voice. But told the news reporters, that it her "own" take[1] on Betty Boop, her version of what she thinks Betty sounds like. Rogers stated that her voice is pretty close to Mae Questel but not exactly, but it is the little "baby-talk" voice.
In a "Betty Boop" cast interview, she stated that her favorite cartoon series is The Amazing World of Gumball.
After looking at a preview, singer Chaka Khan was overjoyed to see a Rogers portray a "Black Betty Boop" on a Black Enterprise post, and commented, "ABOUT TIME!!!!!!!!!!!". Rogers who is a fan of Khan, responded merrily that Khan was aware of her existence.
A press performance of Rogers singing "Something to Shout About" with David Foster on the keys was shown in a promo.
She was also shown singing a trimmed version of "Where I Wanna Be". The song features a lot of "scat-singing" as David Foster did a lot of research on the "Boop" origins, and felt that Betty should scat, the song references the iconic Cab Calloway and Louis Armstrong.
On stage as Betty Boop, she changes her outfit several times throughout her singing and dancing performances. There's also a slight nod to cowgirl Dangerous Betty Boop. In addition, Rogers received a brand-new wig, that looks more akin to Betty Boop's hairstyle, unlike the one she wore during the publicity stunt.
Rogers performed on top of the Wrigley Building, as part of the "Magnificent Mile Lights Festival x Boop! The Musical," Chicago's official tree lighting ceremony event.
Rapper Ice Spice was welcomed backstage in December 2023, where she got to meet Rogers and the Broadway cast and crew.
It was revealed on December 13th in 2023 that Rogers, in the role of Betty Boop, was the face of M.A.C Cosmetics' new Ruby Woo Matte and Cherry Lip Pencil lipsticks.
A Chicagoan interview with Rogers took place on the 19th of December. She enhanced her "Boop" act, turning it from a "Boop-Oop-a-Doo" to a "Boop-Boop-Be-Doop". She explained that she is more confident in the role, and a lot of herself is Betty. She said if she could ask Betty one thing, she would like to know Betty's motto on life.
Rogers disclosed her lifelong love for Disney and said that when she saw Halle Bailey's depiction of the new Ariel in The Little Mermaid, she broke down in tears of joy. Her second favorite Disney film? Cinderella, she declared, especially the adaption featuring Brandy Norwood.
She continued, humorously, by describing herself as a woman of many voices. She questions why people are shocked to hear that she actually has a deep voice because they most likely assume she is a little man.
On the last day of her Betty Boop engagement in Chicago, she gave vocalists some advice on voice control. She also mentioned how difficult it is to be a professional singer on Broadway. She also broke her toe, and was healing from the bruises.
Rogers has been cited as, dancing her heart out on stage. She did the entire Chicago run as Betty Boop.
She also implied that the Broadway album release may or may not happen. But ensured fans, that she would be returning to the Broadway stage in the role of Betty Boop in 2025. She also headlined in a poster in the New York Times.
Two trolls attempted to provoke Rogers on social media. One told Rogers that she would not surpass Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet. And the other said that her Broadway stunt was a test, and implied that payola played a role on her ad. Rogers responded to the trolls politely by saying that she is not determined to surpass Jenner or Chalamet, and that her producers happily paid for the advert.
Rogers went on to say, that she will never lose, she also said that she likes to argue in the comments. She said that she had to make a brand new Twitter account, because her previous account had been banned.
She supported Rachel Zegler the new Snow White,[2] by saying that Zegler is an amazing singer. Zegler responded by saying that she is a fan of Rogers. Rogers implied that women supporting other women is a great thing.
Rogers replied to a troll account on January 27, 2024, that likened a distorted picture of her to Rose McGowan. Rogers stated McGowan was attractive, but she has no idea who McGowan is. When the troll addressed Rogers as Jasman rather than Jasmine, Rogers responded on video. While laughing hysterically as she found it to be funny, Rogers asserted that she is still attractive despite the photo's bias.
She said that it would be her dream to portray Dorothy Dandridge, Eartha Kitt, Lena Horne or Shirley Bassey.
