Jack Mercer Is Marrying Marjorie Hines[1]

Hines and Mercer Wed Again 1939

Popeye and Olive Oyl in real life Jack Mercer and Margie Hines, are on their way to New York to be married. The voices of the cartoon characters were wed in a civil ceremony last March. A church ceremony has been arranged by Margie's mother in New York. Margie is shown serving tea to Jack.

Popeye and Olive left Miami for New York to be married. In private life they are Jack Mercer and Margie Hines. To the public, they are the voices of those ink-bottle lovers of cartoon comedies.

They were married in civil ceremony in Fort Lauderdale last March 3rd. Margie's mother Mrs. Cecilia Bassa of Glendale, L. I., has arranged a church ceremony for them.

Their church wedding has been planned several times, but always had to be canceled because the couple was working on cartoon comedies and doing special jobs for Fleischer Studios' forthcoming full-length feature Gulliver's Travels. "We've started three times since March," wailed Margie in the plaintive voice of Olive Oyl, "but every time we got half packed, the studio called us back."
