Release Date:

September 20, 1928 from Good Boy

I'm not one of the greedy kind

All of my wants are simple

I know what's on my mind

I'm not resting until I find

What would make your eyes

Glisten with joy

Now listen big boy

I wanna be loved by you

Just you and nobody else but you

I wanna be loved by you alone

Poo-Poo-Pah-Doop!

I wanna be kissed by you

Just you and nobody else but you

I wanna be kissed by you alone

Bop! Bop! I couldn't aspire

To anything higher

Than fill the desire

To make you my own

Bop-Bop-Bom-a-Diddle-a-Boom-Ba-Oom!

I wanna be loved by you

Just you nobody else but you

I wanna be loved by you

Alone! Bop-Bop-a-Diddle-Um!

Baddle-Addle-Ah-Dam!

I couldn't aspire

To anything higher

Than fill the desire

To make you my own

Bopple-a-Diddle-Um! Poo-Poo-Pah-Doop!

I wanna be loved by you

Just you and nobody else but you

I wanna be loved by you

Poo-Poo-Pah-Doop! Poo!

Trivia

  • This song was recorded many times by Helen Kane. She altered her "Poop" routine each time it was recorded. In her later covers, it is "Boop-Boop-a-Doop"[2] rather than "Poo" and "Poop" and a variety of scat-sounds reminiscent of noises that originated in the musical Shuffle Along.
  • Was famously covered by Marilyn Monroe, who was portraying a "Boop-Boop-a-Doop" girl "Sugar Kane" in Some Like It Hot. Sugar Kane, was Helen Kane's Broadway stage name.
