Aha!
Don't take my "Boop-Boop-Be-Doop" away...
Will ya!?
I was born with a certain habit
That's part of me...
It brings me happiness
Somehow!
And now this habit
Is right at home
In the heart of me
Without it I'm no good...
No how...
You can feed me bread and water
Or a great big bail of hay
But don't take my "Boop-Boop-Be-Doop" away...
You can say my voice is awful
Or my songs are too err...
Risqué!?
But don't take my "Boop-Boop-Be-Doop" away...
Hmph... I feel like a lonesome barrel...
Without a hoop...
If you should deprive me of my...
Boop-Boop-Be-Doop!
Bop!
Boop-Boop-Be-Doop!
It's the only thing I'll live for
Till the time I'm old and gray
So don't take my "Boop-Boop-Be-Doop" away!
Oh! I feel like a little chicken...
Locked in the coop
If you should deprive me of my...
Boop-Boop-Be-Doop!
Bop!
Boop-Boop-Be-Doop!
You can throw me to the fishes...
Even that would be okay...
But don't take my...
Boop-Boop-Be-Doop away!
"Haha! Excuse me while I powder my nose."
Trivia
- The song is sang while Betty is "sad" so the emotion to sing this song is sadness, for example throughout the official song by Questel she sighs. Whereas in the cartoon version, Betty sings this song "in fear" as she is in danger.
- The song for Betty Boop was officially known as "Don't Take My Boop-Oop-a-Doop Away" but was originally written for Helen Kane and that is why the title is "Boop-Boop-a-Doop" but when Mae Questel sings the song, she doesn't sing the "Boop-Boop-a-Doop" she instead uses her own "Boop-Boop-Be-Doop" in song, which she also did in person in the live-action film Musical Justice.
- Sang by Margie Hines in Betty Boop in Boop-Oop-a-Doop.
- In the 1998-1999 Universal Studios cover by a "Betty Boop Impersonator", Betty is happy while singing.
- Was covered by Niki Romijn during the 2000s.
- Sarah Stiles covered the song in the 2010s.
- A modernized 2023 version featuring Mae Questel can be heard here.
