The Official Voice of Betty Boop

Name

(Robinson is the voice of Betty Boop in Betty Boop's Firehouse.)

Cindy Robinson (born April 6, 1968) is an American voice actress who voices in anime, cartoons and video games. She has performed on Broadway covering Peter Pan, Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Cinderella.

Robinson is best known for her roles as Amy Rose, Bloom, Ginchiyo Tachibana and Betty Boop.[1]

She officially replaced Lisa Ortiz as the voice of Amy Rose in the Sonic the Hedgehog. The official Japanese voice of Amy from 1999 to present day is Taeko Kawata, and Kawata originated the Japanese role whereas Jennifer Douillard Hellman originated the English speaking role.

Because Robinson's initial portrayal of Amy Rose sounded more like Cream the Rabbit or Minnie Mouse, the actress first received negative feedback for it. Robinson ascribed the fault on the voice-acting directors. The directors at the time, wanted Amy to sound more like her Japanese counterpart. In contrast, Amy Rose was well-known in the West as a "valley girl" and for speaking Valleyspeak.

Subsequently, Robinson modified her Amy Rose vocals slightly for the Sonic Boom series.

Robison was no longer connected to the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise and formally retired from the role in 2021, as she wanted to focus more on script writing, song writing and directing.[2] For a brand-new show, Shannon Chan-Kent assumed the role. However though retired, Robinson later returned to voice Rose for various SEGA spin-off video games, adaptions, including TailsTube a Sonic VTuber show.

Robinson was also the voice of Leap in the Leapfrog children's educational toy series and is currently the official voice of Betty Boop and can be heard as Betty Boop in commercials, toys and video games.

Not only that Robinson provided the voice for Pudgy.

In the late 2000s, she began providing the voice of Betty Boop. The 2010 video game "Betty Boop's Love Meter" served as one of her primary introductions to the character of Betty Boop, and she was excellent at it. In 2012, the game was later released for iOS. Initially Lani Minella was the voice of Betty Boop for Bally, Susan Bennett and Wendy Wynman Engels had briefly taken on the role.

"Cindy Robinson: The Official Voice of Betty Boop" was her official "Betty Boop" Facebook page until she turned it into a fanpage in 2012, and later deleted it. She made a new page showcasing her voice-over flexibility. Furthermore, she had observed that she was not the only voice of Betty Boop, and that other individuals were also currently "voicing" Betty.

According to her, King Features Syndicate employs multiple voice actresses for Betty Boop.

Robinson talked about her portrayal of Betty Boop in a 2017 interview. In response to a question about whether or not she had voiced Olive Oyl, Robinson stated that no, even though Olive has a similar voice to Betty.

She went on to say that she naturally sounds like Mae Questel, but that she is not Questel's voice-match, and that it is natural. Robinson added that, despite her ability to mimic Betty Boop's voice, she dislikes voice-matching and that Mae Questel had portrayed Betty "beautifully" in the original cartoons. She stated that Betty has already been cast and her voice has been originated.

Additionally, she believes that she cannot make a name out of the role in voice-matching.

Robinson said, unless you're a voice-matching pro and well-known for your impersonations. Robinson feels she is unsuited for the role of "Betty Boop" and would rather voice fresh new characters.

Lauren "Coco" Cohn also contributes to Betty Boop's voiceover. It was revealed that starting in November of 2023, actress Jasmine Amy Rogers would play the new reimagined version of the live-action Betty Boop character in The Betty Boop Musical on Broadway.
