Helen Kane Attempts To Prove She's Betty Boop[1]

The trial in which Helen Kane claims to be the original "Boop-Boop-a-Doop" singer, seeks $250,000 damages on the grounds that girls in the animated film cartoons used her style of singing, has opened in supreme court. Justice Edward G. McGoldrick limited the issue in the case to whether the defendants used Miss Kane's picture of name for advertising purposes, so three girls whose voices are used in making the film cartoons will be called on for their manner of Booping. When Miss Kane went on the stand she removed her coat and hat to reveal contours which, her attorney said, are imitated in the "Betty Boop" films. Photographs of Miss Kane, or song sheets, were identified by her as having been taken prior to the creation of the cartoon.
