Trivia

  • The collection features no bonus content.
  • Animation historian Jerry Beck[2] who has had input on several Betty Boop projects including Betty Boop: The Definitive Collection complained on a radio show about the release of the Olive Films collection. Jerry stated, "If anyone from Olive Films is listening, I bet you to give me an email. I would love to speak to anybody who works for Olive Films, I think they're kinda chicken, I'm calling them out. They're chicken to talk to me. They're doing a Betty Boop DVD, you know and it's gonna have the non-PD Betty Boops. The attitude of all the companies that have ever, Republic, Artisan, now Olive is that why should we put out Betty Boop? Almost all of them are public domain, and are easily available. I have no evidence and I know that people have lied to me that Olive put out The Quiet Man. I have to admit "I'm not an expert," so I don't know what went into those other Olive releases. Did Olive themselves fund the restoration? I'd like to think that Paramount probably did it, and they're just the sub-distributor."
  • Jerry Beck then stated "Contact me or I'm going to badmouth you. I just don't... we should nip this in the bud. Olive has the rights to all of the stuff, amazing material, but they don't know what they have and are not interested into people who know. All I want is all the stuff to come out in the best presentation." Olive however did not contact Jerry Beck, and Beck then wrote a lengthy blog post on the matter, and couldn't understand why he or any other historian wasn't contacted for their input, which is most likely because all the information needed is on already on the internet. Had Beck been involved in the project, he most likely wouldn't have given the collection negative feedback.
  • Regardless of the behind the scenes controversy, the collection did very well in sales and can be brought in stores.
