"Betty Boop's still got it! Boop-Boop-Be-Doop! Bop!"

Grim Natwick created fictional character Betty Boop the "Boop-Oop-a-Doop" girl in 1930 for a one-shot appearance. Paramount Pictures urged the Fleischer Studios to develop the concept. Max Fleischer created Bimbo and Koko the Clown but Betty was 100% Natwick's idea and creation. Natwick was under contract when he produced Betty because he was employed by the Fleischers at the time. Betty Boop had achieved worldwide fame by 1932.

(Melissa Fahn as a more modernized Betty Boop.)

This is how a modernized Betty sounds. Betty has a sweet voice that is well pitched, neither too high nor too low.

This site includes everything relating to the "Boop-Boop-Be-Doop" cult which was in-vogue from 1928 to 1934. The "Boop" was a prominent scat-singing term used by a number of "flapper girl vocalists" in the 1920s. The phrases "Boop-Boop-a-Doop," "Boop-Oop-a-Doop," "Boop-Boop-Ba-Doop," and "Boop-Boop-Be-Doop" are all interchangeable and originate from general scat rhymes, which according to the Fleischer Studios originated from Black nightclubs in Harlem.

Desirée Goyette:

"Betty Boop was modeled after Clara Bow, so if you want to know more about who Betty Boop was, you need to know a lot more about who Clara Bow was. And so as the voice of Betty Boop I did my best Clara Bow imitation."
