Model Oyla

Oyla P.[1]is a very-well known model from Russia who is best known for her 2008 cosplay photos as Betty Boop by Retro Atelier. She has been modeling since she was a child and works for many well-known brands. Her photo impersonations[2] of Boop first surfaced on HelloBeautiful's official website crediting the photos as Esther Jones.

Certain parts of Oyla's body had been enhanced by Photoshop editing including her hair.

Lifestyle editor Danielle Young who posted the images on the website had claimed that they were of Jones without researching the origin of the photographs, the photos are vintage tribute cosplay photos. The photos later made their way to MadameNoire and then went viral on Tumblr, Facebook and social media worldwide.

Cosplay, a play on the words "costume play," is a performance art form and hobby in which participants, known as cosplayers, dress up as characters and accessorize with fashionable items. A subculture is frequently created by cosplayers interacting with one another, and the term "cosplay" is used more broadly to refer to any type of costumed role-playing outside of theaters.

Any object can be chosen as a subject if it is amenable to theatrical interpretation. Anime, cartoons, comic books, manga, TV shows, concerts, video games, rock music, and occasionally even unique characters are among the favorite sources. The two terms, role play and costume, are combined to form the phrase.

While visiting the real world and making an appearance at a comic book convention, Betty Boop from "Boop!" gets misidentified as a cosplayer.

Trivia

  • A lot of people assume that Oyla is a Black woman, she's actually Caucasian.
  • She is active in Russia and is said to be either Russian or Ukrainian.
  • PBS posted Oyla's photos but became confused, and later thought that singer Esther Bigeou from New Orleans, Louisiana was Jones. This was due to an official Betty Boop website "Betty Boop Checks" that put out misinformation.
